Golf For Kids’ Sake raises $47,000 for youth mentoring

160 golfers, volunteers hit links for Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Wisconsin (BBBSNEW) raised more than $47,000 during its 31st annual Golf For Kids’ Sake fundraiser held June 11 at Thornberry Creek at Oneida in support of youth mentoring programs.
The event highlighted the need for mentors. There are more than 85 children on the waiting list to be matched right now. BBBSNEW served a record high 602 children and was awarded a national Quality Award in 2017 for excellence in leadership and programming. The event raised critical funding with all proceeds from Golf For Kids’ Sake benefitting mentoring programs in Brown, Door and Shawano counties.
“Golf for Kids’ Sake is not only a fun way to raise money to support our programs, but it’s also a great way to raise awareness about the need for mentoring in our community,” said Katie Hess, executive director. “We can all play a role in helping our future generations reach their full potential. It’s thanks to many supporters and advocates both on and off the golf course that events like this are successful.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Wisconsin greatly appreciates sponsorship support from: Schneider, the Green Bay Packers, Green Bay Packaging, KI, WBAY TV-2 and WIXX 101 FM.
Participants took part in a variety of competitions in addition to 18 holes of golf on the championship Legends course. Activities included use the pro’s drive including average distances for male and female pro golfers, beat the beer man and beer woman, hole-in-one contest sponsored by Broadway Automotive and raffles including meat and spirits and golf get-aways to Kohler and Door County.
