September 2018 Match of the Month Brown County | Mike Sullivan & Rafael

September 1, 2018

Each month, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Wisconsin shines a light on the relationships that we are helping build within our community. Please help us congratulate Big Brother Mike Sullivan (25) and his Little Brother Rafael (12) of Green Bay — our Brown County Match of the Month for September.

Where did you hear about Big Brothers Big Sisters?

Mike Sullivan: A you tube video showing a match describing what they do.

Why did you want to become involved?

Mike: I felt like I needed to be doing something more in the community.

Why did you want to have a Big Brother?

Rafael: Because my dad got deported and I didn’t get the chance to spend time with anybody else.

What do you do when you spend time together?

Mike: We play a lot of sports and video games.  We spend a lot of time talking about the Packers and give our opinions on who should be playing more.  We also try new activities around the area.

Is there something that stands out as a memorable time with your little?

Mike: I really enjoyed sledding at Triangle Hill. It was Rafael’s first time sledding.

What is your favorite memory with your Big?

Rafael: When I went to my first Packers game.

Is there something in the future that you would like to do together, or that you look forward to experiencing together?

Mike: A weekend camping trip.

Is there something you would like to do together in the future and why?

Rafael: Have a sleepover.  I think it would be fun.

What have you enjoyed about being a Big?

Mike: Being a constant positive influence to someone who looks up to you.  Every time we hang out, we have a good time.

What is something that you learned from your Big?

Rafael: Always be positive.

In what ways has being matched with your Little affected your life?

Mike: It makes me appreciate the childhood I had and the opportunities I was afforded growing up.

How has being matched with a Big made a difference for you?

Rafael: I go out more and have fun.

What would you say to others about Big Brothers Big Sisters and to others who are thinking about becoming a Big?

Mike: An incredibly rewarding experience.  You can positively impact a child in need of a positive influence.

Additional comments?

Rafael: I want to thank Big Brothers Big Sisters and Mike.
