MATCH OF THE MONTH | DOREEN EASTMAN AND MADY

Four years ago, Doreen’s daughter had headed off for college and she was experiencing a bit of “empty-nest syndrome.” She had heard about Big Brothers Big Sisters through various TV and radio ads and decided to learn more. After attending an information session at the Big Brother Big Sisters office, she was hooked. Doreen completed the application process and was matched up with 8 year old Mady. Mady’s older sister had (and still has) a Big Sister – so Mady had witnessed how much fun it was. She wanted the same opportunity.
Four years later – the two of them are still together and going strong. They enjoy going out to eat, shopping, going to movies and just hanging out at Doreen’s home baking. This past year, Doreen got a new puppy, Brewer, and they enjoy spending time with him too! Mady says that taking Brewer to doggy training has been one of her recent most memorable things they have done together. And Doreen will tell you that taking Mady to her first Packer Game was her most memorable activity together! Both are big Packer fans!
Mady says that Doreen has taught her how to shop for deals, and perhaps more importantly, she’s able to talk about stuff with Doreen that she doesn’t talk to other people about. Doreen talks about their relationship this way, “I’m enjoying being a good role model to Mady and inspiring her to be her best. I look forward to watching her grow into a young lady and making wise decisions that will impact her future. Being matched with Mady has made me realize that it takes a village to raise a child. It’s a very rewarding position to be in when you see your Little doing and achieving great things.”
