Hailey Guderyon & Lilly

One of the most important things to me is empowering and supporting children at a young age. That way, they can learn the confidence and skills they will need to succeed. That is what lead me to BBBS! I was looking for an opportunity to regularly volunteer with kids and thought that BBBS would be a great option.

Lilly and I were matched in June of 2018, and we hit it off right away. She wanted to be matched because her parents were pretty busy at home, and she wanted to have another person to spend some time with. Since getting matched, Lilly and I have a variety of activities that we have done. We usually grab some food before we start on our activity. Lately, we have been doing more cooking and baking, including making homemade bobas for boba tea! Lilly’s favorite things to do are play games, go shopping, or just hang out together.

One of my favorite memories was taking Lilly to Board and Brush. She is so artistic, and watching how happy she was doing the craft was a blast! Actually, that may be my favorite thing about being matched. Every time I pick her up and see her huge smile, it is the best feeling in the world. In the future, I am hoping to take her to Door County for cherry picking. I would love to show her Al Johnson’s, a restaurant that has goats on the roof. I love to take her to try new things or have experiences she has not done yet. Plus, it reminds me to enjoy the little things in life.

For anyone thinking of being matched, it is worth it!
