John & Mary Beth Thornton & Kanzen
Hello, everyone! My name is Mary Beth, and my husband and I have been matched with our Little Sister, Kanzen, for five year. Kanzen and I had built a strong relationship through another program that was ending and wanted to continue seeing each other. BBBS was a wonderful solution for staying in contact, so we wanted to get matched with one another. About six months later, I suggested that John join us for an outing at the Neville Museum. After a casual introduction, they hit if off immediately. John joined BBBS, and we became a Big Couple match with Kanzen! The first time Kanzen met John is one of the most memorable moments for all of us.
It’s hard to believe we have five years of memories to share! Favorite activities range from simply spending time together at home to special occasions: playing Monopoly (virtually during the pandemic), going to museums, attending BBBS events (magician, zip line, Segway, Urban Battlefield, Triangle Hill, picnics), Terror on the Fox, Railroad Museum events (like Polar Express!), Bay Beach, swimming, hiking, pumpkin carving, apple bobbing, Wequiock Falls, Night at the Museum, Earth Day garbage pick up, Titletown tubing & skating, Wisconsin Dells water park, Green Bay Botanical Garden (Garden of Lights, Washed Ashore, scavenger hunts), watching movies, going out to eat… and so much more!
It’s been a wonderful journey. Kanzen is now a teenager, and life is evolving. There will always be a special bond among the three of us, and we look forward to many more adventures to come!
