Amanda Rodenhauser & Ashley

Hi, everyone! My name is Amanda, and this is my Little Sister Ashley. I was a Big Sister was I was in college and decided to get matched again a few years later because I fully believe in the importance of giving back, paying it forward, and making an impact on those around you. As an elementary teacher, I have a passion for mentoring, helping, teaching, and serving our youth, and I genuinely believe that we can change the world one life at a time.

After nine years together, Ashley and I have developed a very solid relationship and have a few go-to activities. We often cook and try out new recipes, go exploring on outdoor adventures to state parks and nature centers, listen to music, dance, and we have attending lots of BBBS opportunities and events. Above all the activities, though, what stands out to me the most is seeing how much Ashley has grown and transformed during our time together. It’s been a joy watching her blossom and gradually gain more confidence during our many years.

When I look back at some of our first photos together, I can hardly recognize that little girl. It has been a privilege and an honor to be a part of so many moments of her life from holiday and birthday to her recently getting her driver’s license. It’s been fun being able to connect and teach her so many life lessons and just have fun together and enjoy each other’s company. We have had countless laughs and memories together and have become friends who feel like family.

To anyone considering being matched, if you are able and willing to commit to the time, consistency, and energy required, both of your lives with be changed and positively impacted for the better in ways you can’t even imagine. According to author Josh Shipp, “Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story.” You might be that adult!
