Mary Connors & Mariah

Hi, my name is Mary, and this is my Little Sister Mariah! Mariah and I were matched four years ago and have really enjoyed our time together since first meeting. I wanted to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters to give back to the community and because I believe in the impact that a positive mentor can have in the life of a child. Mariah was looking for a Big Sister to spend time with and learn new things from. Little did I know how much I would learn from her! Mariah has taught me to be more grateful for what I have and to live in the moment. She is sensitive and intuitive, and we have built a relationship based on trust. 

Our activities together vary, and we have been able to do lots of things! We share meals at my home, bake and decorate cookies, go to parks, enjoy the lights at the Botanical Gardens, play games, watch movies, and enjoy BBBS sponsored activities. Not surprisingly, one of Mariah’s favorite things to do together is to get ice cream! In our adventures together, we have been able to share meaningful conversations, lots of laughter, “friendly competitions”, and learn new things about each other. In the future, we would love to go to Door County and do some exploring together.

Since meeting Mariah, I have enjoyed our conversations and seeing things through her eyes. I enjoy watching her grow and mature, and I cherish the trust that is between us. To anyone considering becoming a Big, I would not hesitate to give it a try! Do not underestimate the power that comes with being in a relationship with someone. There are a lot of young people who could use a trusted mentor in their lives. Plus, hanging out with a Little is fun and helps keep us young!
