Judy Chike & Nevaeh

Hi everyone! My name is Judy, and this is my Little Sister Nevaeh! Neveah and I met in January of 2019, and we have been an inseparable pair ever since. Neveah told me she wanted a Big because she didn’t have a lot of friends or people to hang out with, and she wanted to spend time with someone who she could talk to. I wanted to get involved because I was looking for something that I could do in my community to make a difference. My daughter is a social worker in Denmark, and she suggested BBBS!

Nevaeh and I meet during her lunch break at school on a weekly basis. When she was younger, we spent more time playing games and doing activities. As she has gotten older, our time together is mostly an opportunity to catch up and talk about life. I have a number of wonderful memories over our 4 years together! Neveah is an exceptional artist, and I love seeing her drawings. During the height of the pandemic, Nevaeh and I continued our weekly chats virtually, and I recently got to see her in her first school musical. She was so good! Nevaeh has shared how much our chats during COVID helped her too. I look forward to continuing to watch Neveah grow up and develop into an amazing young woman, and our visits continue to be the highlight of our weeks.

Our time together has impacted both of us in many ways. Neveah shared that our relationship has showed her to look at things from another perspective, and she even told me she wants to be a Big herself! As for me, Neveah has been a huge source of joy, and I see her as part of my family.

For anyone considering being a Big, I would encourage you to do it! It is so rewarding!
